Obituary of Marion Adams Clark

Marion Adams Clark went home to be with his Lord on Christmas Day, December 25, 2010. A celebration of his life funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 29 at the chapel of Golden's Funeral Home in Bastrop, LA. with Rev. Jason Murphy, his grandson, officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Golden's. Marion Clark was born July 9, 1918 at Pecan Grove Plantation in Tensas Parish, and was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence L. Clark, Sr. and Elizabeth Lynch Clark, and his brother, C.L. Clark, Jr. After accepting Jesus as his personal Savior, he became a faithful church member and served as Treasurer for 29 years. It was his great attention to detail and accuracy that he was noted for - earning him the deepest respect and friendship of Pastors, church family, and all who knew him. He served his Lord, his family, and his church devotedly - both in deed and in spirit. Giving his very best to whatever he did was a trait he was well known for and loved for. Most evident was his deep and abiding love for his family. The joy of his life was spending time with them. He was present in almost every event in their lives, always offering support in every possible way. The highlight of every day was sharing times and conversations with his children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, his wife, and his friends. He delighted in their visits and calls and reminisced about them afterwards, often laughing about something shared in a phone conversation. He spoke often of the loving care he received from his wife, Alice, and of her devoted companionship that brought him such happiness even in times when health wasn't the best, and he shared deep concern for her well being, also. Though his mobility became limited and his hearing faded, his great indelible spirit never changed. As his health declined in later years, he faced many challenges, yet he never complained. He always thanked any one who helped him in any way, and made care giving for him a joy. His concern was always for others, and we all knew we could count on him if ever we had a need. No matter what hour or day it was, he always had time for us. Time to listen, to "watch", to counsel, or to just simply be with us. He knew how to share life and we learned the meaning of integrity, loyalty, and sacrifice by watching him live his life. The legacy of love that he and their mom, Alice, left will never be forgotten by their children and grandchildren. Marion retired from International Paper Company as Assistant Time Keeper after 34 years of service. He graduated from Northeast La. College, now ULM, with a degree in Business. He was a World War II veteran, having served in China, Berhma, and India. He spent many years coaching both boys' Little League baseball and girls' summer and high school softball in Mer Rouge, where many were taught the game, developed their skills, and learned discipline and what it took to become Champions. His remarkable work ethic was evident in everything he did. The void in the lives of the loved ones he left behind will be great, but left to cherish, honor, and celebrate his memory are his devoted wife of 65 years, Alice McCollough Clark, his daughter, Judi Murphy and husband Dell, his daughter, Lynn Schoen and husband Stan; Grandchildren Donna Whetstone and husband Larkin, Patrick Harrell and wife Allison, Shon Murphy, Derek Schoen, Jason Murphy and wife Kelly, Dara Rhew and husband Randy; great-grandchildren, Ryan Whetstone, Micah Whetstone and wife Brittany, Colby Whetstone, Caden Whetstone, Brayden Rhew, Nolan Rhew, Kelsey Murphy, Josiah Murphy, Kylah Murphy and great-great grandchildren, MaKenna and Baylen Whetstone. Pallbearers will be grandsons, grand sons-in-law and great grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Quinn McCollough, Edgar Hodges, David Clark, and Henry Harris. The family wants to give special thanks to those who helped in giving care, Nina Pates, Laricia Minneweather, Barbara Wilson, Tiana Davis, and Janice Robinson along with friends Henry and Roblean Harris of Good Shepherd. Also, we greatly appreciate Barbara Porter and the others nurses with Home Care Resources. The family also thanks Dr. Ronald Hubbard and Dr. Arthur Liles for the outstanding care and compassion they rendered. We've walked together along life's path and always you've shared with us your love, your kindness, your wisdom, and your very being. The heart has it's own memory, like the mind - and in it are enshrined the precious keepsakes and treasures of times spent together. .... we'll visit again in Heaven, Daddy and Granddaddy.
