Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jean Whorton, age 77, are scheduled for 10 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Hackler and Bro. Taylor Freeland officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Whorton  was retired from the Morehouse Parish School system and upon her retirement held a variety of other jobs in the community. She was a member and instrumentalist at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and also a member of the Bastrop Professional Womens Organization.  She loved spending time with family, playing piano, and shopping.  To her family, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Wilson and husband Todd, Amy Nason and husband Sonny, Steve Whorton and wife Kim; eight grandchildren, Brittany Wilson, Katelyn Freeland and husband Taylor, Jodi Ford and husband Justin, Bradi Nason, Molli Nason, Tripp Nason, Nolan Whorton, Brett Tyler Whorton; one great-grandchild, Layla Ford and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Whorton; daughter, Kathy Whorton; parents, M L Wooden and Nobbie Wooden.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be James Mardis, Jeremy Allen, Steve Perry, Charlie Peterson, Jerry Deville and Terry Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers are Mike Wooden, Bobby Wooden, Bobby Nugent, Jeff Churchwell, Fales Spikes, Keith Spikes, Dr. Jerry Adkins, and Laverne Johnson.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
