Sara Elizabeth (Sarabeth) Ferguson Atkins was born on April 3, 1940 and died on January 1, 2020 in Monroe, LA. Sarabeth attended East Side School, Bastrop Junior High School, Bastrop High School, where she graduated in 1958, and later went to college at Louisiana Tech in Ruston. Sarabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Byron Atkins; sister Marion Ferguson Yarbrough; parents, Chester and Virginia Orr Ferguson and grandparents, M.V. Orr and Virginia Murrell Orr, Robert G. Ferguson and Sarah Tucker Ferguson. Sarabeth is survived by her brother and sister in law, Jim and Annelle Ferguson and their children, Robert Allen Ferguson, John David Ferguson and wife Cherie and their daughter, Kristen Ferguson Beckler and husband Ryan and their children, her brother in law, Paul Yarbrough, son, Douglas Yarbrough and wife Bianka; and other extended and dear family members from the Orr, Ferguson, Burford, LeTard and Tarver families. A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church Monroe on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2 p.m with Reverend Brian Mercer officiating. Sarabeth loved dogs and over the years she and her husband Byron were active in dog shows in the region. They were also active at the Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston, LA where her husband was a teacher. She was an active member of the National Federation of Republican Women and participated in local meetings. With her husband’s love of ships and the ocean, they enjoyed taking cruises together. She enjoyed swimming and relaxing in the backyard pool in the summer. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
