Alvis Mayo, age 71, of Bastrop, LA, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in West Monroe, LA. He was born on March 10, 1953, in Jones, LA, to D.R. Mayo, Jr. And Zelma Lee (Roy) Mayo. Alvis was raised by his grandparents, Doc and Gladys (Crenshaw) Mayo in Jones and attended the school for children with disabilities in Monroe, LA as a child. As an adult, Alvis liked traveling and seeing new places and enjoying natures beauty and all it has to offer. Family was most important to Alvis. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, the kindness he showed his friends, and his special ability to bond with children of all ages.
Mr. Mayo is survived by his niece, Karon Young Marks, and husband Jeff of Crossett, AR; aunt, Clara Lee (Mayo) Barthol and husband Laurie of Jones, LA; siblings, Bonnie Mayo Kinney of Bastrop, LA, Brenda Mayo Frisby of Bastrop, LA, Geraldine Mayo Goodson, and husband Mark of Bonita, LA, Sandra Fleming Schneider, and husband Greg of Dallas, TX, Randy Mayo of Oak Grove, LA, Charles Fleming of Texas, Doyle Fleming of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two sisters, Janet Mayo Young and Betty Gail Mayo Cornelius.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 23, 2024, at Golden Funeral Home for those who want to pay respects for Mr. Mayo. Private interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bastrop, LA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, LA, or Americans with Disabilities in his honor.
