Interment will follow at Hughes Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 5-7 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Corinth Baptist Church (18196 Hamburg Rd. Bastrop, LA 71220). Ronnie was born October 5, 1947, in Bastrop, Louisiana, and passed away on December 15, 2024, at his home in Beekman, surrounded by his family. Ronnie was a strong, kind, God-fearing family man. He was the life of the party wherever he went, and you could always count on him for comic relief. He was cracking jokes and singing songs even during his last few hours here with us. Ronnie retired from Shell where he spent 26 years working in the oilfield. After retiring from Shell, he worked at Martco. Ronnie was an avid hunter and spent most of his free time at the deer camp in Marion, Louisiana. He loved hunting deer, turkey, and hogs, and he shared that passion with his kids, grandkids, and extended family. When Ronnie wasn’t hunting he could be found working on the family cattle farm. Ronnie would take care of any task big or small, but his favorite chores were those that required him to ride the tractor or lawnmower (wide open, usually). Ronnie valued his family over everything else and loved spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. No matter the circumstances, he never missed a family dinner, and he was a frequent texter in the family group chat. He was extremely proud of his entire family, and never missed a chance to tell his grandkids how proud they made him and how much he loved them. Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Edith Diel; father and mother-in-law Jack and Helen Huffman; and brothers Gary Diel, Bucky Diel, and Billy Diel. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Merle; his three children, Scott and Kristi Diel, Ashley and Kerry Richardson, and Eric and Lindsey Diel; his grandchildren, Tatum, Juston, Whitney, Danella, Emery, Audree, Amelia, Hanna (James), and Brent (Shelby); his brother, Danny Diel; his sisters, Brenda Cheek, Pam Lowery (Steve), Beth Chain (Don), Carolyn Renfrow, and Dana Diel; his beloved lap dog Gypsy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who he loved deeply. Pallbearers will be Scott Diel, Eric Diel, Kerry Richardson, Juston Richardson, Dewey Diel, Danny Lynn Diel, Tim Diel, Greg Cheek, Raymond Cheek, Derrick Renfrow, and David Brakefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Diel, Dennis Keith Diel, Willie Diel, Steve Lowery, and Don Chain.
